What's good here?

Yes, it's in every New York City guidebook. Yes, it will be full of tourists. They don't sell by the slice, or take reserverations, and you have to stand outside while you wait. So go on a rainy day, and the wait will be far shorter. The last time I was there, one of the waiters noticed I was wearing a Johnny Cash T-shirt. He promptly went over the restaurant sound system and put in Johnny for everyone to listen to while we ate.
I have dreams of Grimaldi's Pizzeria. Next time I go I'll have to wear a cool band/artist shirt to get some requests in!

I'm always on a quest for crust that is both chewy and crispy at the same time, in the same bite. Lombardi's has it.

They make one pie at a time. You'll wait over 90 minutes to eat. You'll curse your friends for taking you there. Then, after you taste this pizza, you'll be back the following week. #BestPizzaOnEarth

Lombardi's Coal Oven Pizza not that I consider them the BEST but I definitely thought they should belong in the list somewhere
oops I guess it was already in there. I guess it just gets another vote then

Anyone who claims they know who has "The Best Pizza in New York" is sure to come up against some skeptics. But Nonna's L.E.S. is up there with the better known. Keste and Motorino. No points for ambience, but if you happen to live on the Lower East Side, order the Paesano. This rectangular pie, topped with homemade fresh mozzerella, Nonna's secret sauce, sausage, roasted red peppers and mushrooms, is worth the $26 price tag. (Or $4.50 for a slice.)

If you're uptown, Rigoletto Pizza. Great pizza, but their sauces are what do it. Instead of the regular parmesan or red pepper flakes, they have a pesto sauce, some other sort of green sauce, and the most incredible spicy red pepper sauce ever. I want to fill up container and take it home with me.

My go to pizza joint is Ben's Pizza in SoHo. Their famous square pizza -- super cheesy, super saucy, and just a little crispy on the bottom. BAM!

What's your go to slice?
LOVE this place. The artichoke and spinach pizza is insanely good. Great, I want some now.
13
The artichoke pizza is delicious, but a bit on a heavy side for me. It's like clam chowder on pizza haha. I think the margherita pizza is the most underrated slice there!

They're selling their pizza at grocery stores now too! http://newyork.grubstreet.com/2011/08/the_unstoppable_artichoke_pizz.html
OMG! Best pizza hands down, beats Lombardi's (don't know what the talk about is about that place). Love the Margarita and artichoke yumminess!

Exactly how I like my pizza: thin and crispy.

Luigi's Pizzeria. The crust is superior, the sauce is just right, and the cheese is spread evenly through out. And that's all you need for the perfect slice of pizza!
Couldn't agree more. The best way to litmus test a pizza place is to try a slice of cheese.
25
I have severe pizza issues (from Jersey), I'm a difficult sale. I will need to try Luigi though (my recommendation was for @Benny Tudino's in Hoboken...still my gold standard)

Roberta's Pizza for ambiance, Motorino for tastiness, and @Paulie G's for hospitality
Motorino is tasty..Have you tried the Soppressata Piccante? It's Amore!

What is it about Artichoke, Chelsa?

unlike most pizza-by-the-slice places in NYC this one is great because its different. white (alfredo?) sauce with artichokes & cheese. So rich but so good. However, my late night favorite pizza is Stromboli Pizzeria in the E Village.
