Although most come to eat here, you can totally swing by and sit near the fire/bar side and enjoy a martini with a shaker.

For a night of Fred Astaire-style dinner and dancing, there is nowhere better than the Top of the Mark. This swanky restaurant and bar at the top of the Mark Hopkins Intercontinental boasts a 100-plus martini list. There is nowhere better than the Top of the Mark for a night of Fred Astair-style dinner and dancing.

Without a doubt, Absinthe makes the best martinis in SF. I'll take mine dry with Plymouth gin, and two olives please.

Have you ever tried the actual Absinthe? Do they serve in the traditional manner?
You can bet they do. They've even got a great section of their site with info on the spirit: http://www.absinthe.com/absinthe.php

The drinks made here are second to none. Just superb. You can't go wrong. I love the ambiance and have stayed up drinking t'ill closing on a number of occasions. It's a very mixed gay and hetero scene but comfortable. It's very intimate, which I like, and there is a piano in the back so you never know which evening someone will be playing some broadway tune of yesteryear! This is my favorite bar in the city.

For the bartenders at Bar Agricole, making a cocktail is a work of art. The careful measurements, creative serveware and delicious ingredients make a Bar Agricole martini more of an experience than an afterwork drink.

Add a dash of Piano Bar In The Back and a pinch of Cute Drunk Lesbians Making Out and you've got the best night ever.

Their cocktails are great, but the atmosphere is a little strict. Know what I mean?

Blondies has a great selection of martini's and they are served with a shaker on the side. They have some great weekday Djs as well....

Martuni's will knock you out. Make it through three and you might be Irish.

Oh my god, I think I'm Irish.

Olive Bar & Restaurant has the best martinis in town: chocolate hazelnut, pomegranate, watermelon, raspberry, and my favorite: the Ultimate Olive (with goat cheese stuffed olives). Just not all once.
1
Clift Hotel they can make them verrry dirty with blue cheese stuffed olives. enough said!

Aub @Zamzam on Haight - Bruno "the Martini nazi" might not be behind the bar there anymore, but the entire staff knows how to make a martini almost as well as he did, which is still better than most anywhere in SF.

Top Of The Mark - Intercontinental pricey, but worth it.

The view is definitely worth the mark up!
