It might get overlooked on Smith Street, but Savoia holds its own to anywhere in Brooklyn.
Most will go for the Neapolitan-style crust pizza from the wood-burning oven, but the gnocchi is among the best I've ever had. The food and and the wine list are excellent, but it's the wait staff that sets Savoia apart. Try to sit outside on a nice summer evening.

Tucked into the heart of the West Village, Malatesta is the ideal spot to wheedle a few clandestine smooches. This bellisima noshing spot is impossibly rustic and romantic serving up fresh, authentic fare (like caprese and gorgonzola gnocci) amid flickering candles, brooding brick walls, and heady carafes of red wine.

I used to go there on my lunch breaks all the time. Delicious penne alla vodka and large, family-style portions that give a personal feeling to the menu that's very appealing.

You've probably walked past this place before. Next time, go in. There's a reason it's a favorite to stars like Billy Joel and Lenny Kravitz. The menu and ambience are quintessential Italian, without the pomp and pretension of more well-known restaurants. Try the tagliatelle bolognese.

My favorite is Piccolo Angolo
