Monday's free stand-up show, Whiplash, alone makes the UCB Theatre the best comedy club in New York, boasting such stellar comedians as Jim Gaffigan, Mike Birbiglia, Todd Barry, Anthony Jeselnik and Demetri Martin. Throw in cheap improv and sketch shows with the likes of founders Amy Poehler, Matt Besser, Matt Walsh and Ian Roberts in an intimate setting and you've got a true gem.

Comedy Cellar in Greenwich Village. Every great comedian has made an appearance at this place and I have yet to be disappointed by any of the stand-up acts I have seen. Drinks are decently priced at about $6 for a beer and $7 for wine. Be sure to make a reservation though, the venue is tiny and can get pretty cramped.
