I always like to hit up Puerto Alegre on Valencia. Authentic Mexican at reasonable prices, a fun, relaxed atmosphere and six different choices of margarita.Individual or by the pitcher.
10
Pitcher, please!
26
Pitcher, definitely.
5
We'll split one! Oh, wait. If Bryant's coming we might need two. Or three.
10
Bottomless sangria? I mean, if the mimosas can do it...
5
I think mimosas are braver than sangria.
8
I disagree. Sangria will sound any depth.
OKAY ALMOST THERE ...GET READY TO PARTY LOL.....THEN WE NEED TO DECIDE SLEEPING ARANGMENTS FOR FRIDAY , SATURDAY AND SUNDAY.

I know it's not as exciting as spas, massages and fine dining, but a deal at Whole Foods Market or Trader Joe's would be spectacular. Cook at home with your significant other for a romantic stay-at-home date.
8
I couldn't agree more. A grocery store deal would be great. Not sure how it would work though.
5
I was just thinking about that walking home from the lovely (but pricey) Rainbow Grocery. Maybe like "Spend $100 get $50 free groceries"?
11
Did you see that Whole Foods deal on Living Social about two weeks ago? $20 voucher for $10 bucks?
5
No! How did I miss that? I love Rainbow Grocery. I live two blocks away. Whenever I go I grab a bottle of Cheap Red Wine. Have you guys tried it?
10
Is it comparable to TJ's Two Buck Chuck? Seriously, what a deal.
5
It's a little better than 2 Buck Chuck and only about $5 a bottle. Plain, brown label and all.

As a writer and an artist I suffer a lot of back pain. And I whine about it all the time. The Advil and Tiger Balm companies love me as I am a repeat customer. So...I'm going to say a really nice 90 minute massage. Or several.
10
Bell! You have to pinch the Suchada deal here. It's probably the best massage spot in all of SF. Cures all that ails ya.
8
That or you should nabbed the chiropractor deal that was on here awhile back. Seems like you need bit more than the average massage...
5
Got the Suchada. Will look for the next chiropractor deal!
10
I'll be on the lookout for the same. 'Bout time for a back crack!
13
I was in immense pain from freelance writing this week at starbucks, owies. I'm going to kill for one of those soft back chairs next time.
5
Ouchie. I understand. I wish my pencils, brushes and laptop keys could just read my mind so I could do yoga while I work.

Great American Music Hall. Beautiful interior, great bands and good food and drinks make this place the whole package.
The New Parish in Oakland is really nice; great seats above, the security are cool, and its a good location in the city
9
I really love Great American Music Hall. The New Parish, too! One thing that's great about the Bay Area is that there are plenty of excellent music venues.
5
Absolutely! I love the remodeled Fox Theatre in Oakland, too. Have you guys been? It's really gaudy but also lends itself to dancing and rocking out. A little more so than GAMH, even.
9
Yeah! The Fox Theatre is a snazzy place. It makes sense it originally opened in 1928 as a movie house. I really dig those Brahmin Temple-esque golden deities.
5
Oh I love those. Kind of creepy and cute at the same time.
9
Yeah. It's a beautiful venue.
5
1
Now that ::sob:: Chez Thuy is gone ::sob:: the best brunch I've had lately is Pork Store Cafe. Even my picky Southerner of a husband and his friends from Georgia and Louisiana gave the food a nod.
6
Confirmed by southern natives! Must be good!
8
Have to admit, I do love me some southern comfort. Where is this place?
5
There's one on in the Haight (on Haight) but the one I go to is on 16th street between Valencia and Guerrero. Try the biscuits and gravy and a bloody mary. :)
8
You had me at biscuits. Those things will be the buttery death of me.
5
I am a fan of their eggs Florentine, myself, but my husband is all about the biscuits, gravy and grits.
8
He sounds like a regular cowboy. Just add a hat and lasso!
5
Yeah...I'm slowly having to learn to cook southern food. And I'm a terrible cook.
8
Pinchit! I think someone wants some lessons in Southern Cooking! (and by that, I mean me. That actually would be kind of awesome to learn how to make biscuits from scratch)
5
That would be so cool! And my Southern family would love me forever! Get on it, Pinchy!
10
Not to brag or anything (the required preambular statement all braggarts must start with), but I make some pretty mean soul food - my southern greens and jambalaya has made me pretty famous 'round these parts.
5
My friend (also a Southerner) lent me a book called More Swamp Cookin'. I'm a little afraid to open it as there is a section on gator meat and opossum.
10
Oy! I'm afraid my culinary talents do not include meals that contain marsupials of any variety, or animals that resemble giant lizard beasts.
8
@Sarah: where on earth would you be able to shop for gator meat and opossum? Besides the internet I mean...
5
The South! Apparently they'll eat anything. Even okra.
8
Sounds like the long lost brethren of the Chinese. You'd be amazed at what you can find at some real Chinese restaurants...
5
I've been to China. Some of it was amazing and some of it downright spine chilling for this little American girl.
8
Yeah...I'll draw the line at dog pretty much. Have you ever had 1000 year old egg?
10
I'm Chinese, so I've had my share of yummy 1000 year-old eggs! That might be the extent of my exotic Chinese food eating, though. 'Cuz they be eatin' some crazy shit.
8
I'm actually ok with the chicken feet, frogs legs, and ox tail, but once you start getting beyond normal livestock (excluding the frog), it gets a bit iffy for me.
5
I've never had them. Are they good?
10
DT: yucko yuck!
10
Bell: I like them a lot, but it's probably an acquired taste to be sure. It has a strong, pungent smell/taste and a gelatinous texture. Hard to explain. You just gotta try one and if you hate it, blame DT.
8
Best enjoyed in rice porridge. Heck, almost makes it so good you almost don't need salt!
5
No.
10
Honestly -- probably a wise decision.
8
Well, I'd love to introduce it to you. Let's make it a trade: sign my comics and I'll show you how delicious they can be. :D
5
1
They say you can't always get what you want. Order a sandwich from L'acajou Bakery & Cafe. Prove Mick Jagger wrong.
Which sandwich combination would you recommend?
5
I love the roasted vegetable sandwich. But you can also get a grilled cheese with pancetta bacon grilled right into it.
Roasted vegetables sound delicious! I haven't tried a vegetarian sandwich yet. Mmm, and cheese and bacon - can't go wrong with that combo. Thanks for the recommendations. :)
8
Sounds like a french bakery. Trust them to make awesome sandwiches. Whereabouts is this place?
5
http://www.lacajou.com/

You will love me forever if you try this place.
8
Being that I'm a geek and you're a comic book artist that helps me feed my addictions, I already love you forever. :P
5
Aw...geek love is the best kind. Hey! My new book is coming out now. It's called Stuff & Things. :)
8
What's it about? Besides "stuff" and "things" of course. :P
5
Lots of things. It's 7 short stories. :)
8
Short stories for my short attention span. Perfect!
5
Come to APE. We're at table 543. :)
8
Sweet, just out of curiosity, do you have any other suggestions of what I should check out there?
5
Gosh. There's so much! Last Gasp always has a big table there, and there are just a lot of interesting artists from all over. Hard to make suggestions but if you've never been you have to check it out at least once. :)
8
I guess I'll just jump headfirst then!
6
Is the place next to the motorcycle shop? I always see their huge sign advertising spicy lamb sandwiches.
5
2
Beautifull in Laurel Heights. Ahi tuna melt. 'Nuff said.
7
I've never had Ahi Tuna but I've always wanted to try it.
5
Oh please do. The best way to have it is seared, but it's even good in a sandwich!
7
I'm not a huge fish fan but I'll definitely give it a try.

Thanks!
11
Fish sandwiches are always a good option - can't go wrong! I had a smoked salmon sandwich before - it was delightful. I'll def try the Ahi tuna melt - prob taste like a tuna sandwich!!
34
If you are an ahi tuna fan, you should also try Pacific Catch in the Marina. Their Ahi Tuna with house made aioli sauce is yummy!
5
A friend of mine loves the salmon burgers at a place downtown I'm blanking on right now of course. ;)
8
Snap, I live in Laurel Heights. Ahi tuna melt, here I come.
5
Try their curry, too. Mm-mm good.
11
Is the Pacific Catch all fish sandwiches?
26
Been working on perfecting my own curry sauce; haven't gotten it right yet, so I still have to rely on others for my curry fix.
5
Hi Thao, no I think they have a steak sandwich and a chicken sandwich, but the fish sandwiches there are great. And they have lots of other things besides sandwiches, too.
5
Yeah, I think that's why I love restaurants so much. I for one can't make a grilled cheese without burning it.
11
Speaking of grilled cheese sandwiches, Hog Island Oysters @ the Ferry Building has one of the BEST grilled cheese sandwiches ever!
5
Really? I will **have** to try it. Cheese to me is like...well...a rat to cheese. Speaking of cheese...have you tried the Mac n' Cheese at The Blue Plate? O.M.G.
11
NO I haven't! Dude, I have the WORST addiction to cheese...so I know exactly what you mean. Where's Blue Plate located? Perhaps Pinchit will have a deal on a cheese bar / eatery. I remember there being one...
5
Oh, man! That would be a great Pinchit deal. Blue Plate is near 29th and Mission. It's incredible. Do you like Cowgirl creamery?
5
1
I am not into football. Nope. Not even a little bit. But...if you're like me and you don't mind hanging with your friends while they scream and shout over their beers, Kilowatt is the place to be. I can hang back and shoot pool while they cheer and buy me beers for being so patient.
13
haha I'm the same way...I'll watch superbowl and that's it.
9
I'm a basketball fan.
10
I'm all about the bball, myself! But I can tolerate watching men in tights tackle each other for a coupla hours.
10
The great thing about Football that it brings more than just the game. Bets, gambling, fantasy football and loads of beer!
10
It's so true. Beer would make watching paint dry fun.
9
Yeah, I think football has plenty of positives. I think I'm not as into following it because I didn't grow up in a household that watched it.
20
I love Kilowatt! It's also a perfect place to score some after-work beers
14
I'm a fan of Kilowatt, but also a huge football fan, so finding new places to watch the games is great. Thanks for the tip!
5
Sure! It's also a great place to watch hockey games...so I hear (through the earplugs I wear to block out the sports noise). ;)
5
1
Next time you're in the Mission and need a pick me up, head to Muddy's on Valencia (two locations, 16th and 25th). These homey cafes have been SF institutions for many, many years and while they may not boast a hip interior, you can enjoy a perfect cuppa joe surrounded by fliers for local bands, artists and events and peruse the rotating art on the walls.
10
I'd gladly forgo some laboratory hipness for some genuine community coffee. Merci, for the tip!
5
Pas de probleme! I love spots that have been around forever and are still old school San Francisco.
8
I wonder what the oldest coffeehouse in San Francisco is. Anyone here know off the top of their heads?
10
Cafe Trieste is the oldest coffee house in San Francisco and a favorite hangout for Beat poets, writers and opera lovers in the city's North Beach neighborhood.
10
Totally off the top of my head and not the top google search result for "oldest coffee house in San Francisco" or anything.
5
It is a great spot. Especially if you are a fan of (googling) history.
8
Also if you're a fan of the Godfather. Francis Ford Coppola wrote the majority of the script for the movie in that particular cafe.
5
Did he really? How cool to know.
10
Speaking of FFC. Has anyone been to his winery in Geyserville? Sounds like an off-beat, interesting place.
8
Haven't, but I passed by it recently! Looks gorgeous from what I saw.
10
Solid yelp reviews. I may have to make a weekend of it soon. I shall report back to my fellow pinchers!
5
Please do! I'm a complete ignoramus when it comes to these things.
8
It's alright, I just soak in random facts. Too bad I can't drink all that much: I'd come in handy at the bar during trivia night.
10
...or at Double Jeopardy!
8
Awesome at trivia. Answer: What is me? :D
10
ha! $1500 daily double, right there.
5
I love Jeopardy. I love to shout "Duh! Idiot!" when some 9th grader gets an answer wrong that I know. I am a genius.
8
And then you go on "Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader" and realize you should have never graduated elementary school...
5
Haha. Dammit.
5
1
Oh, man! Pinchit has a great deal on the Ghirardelli Square! Not that it's a first date but I think I'll grab this deal and go with the hubby. Mmmm...cho-co-late...
8
Still, it might be a great idea for a first date idea. After all, if all else fails, bribe them with chocolate!
5
Exactly. Fill her with chocolate and wine...they say both are aphrodisiacs...
10
Aphrodiasiac eh? That combo sounds like more than a kiss goodnight.
8
Oh there will be a kiss goodnight. It's just a question of whether it's on the doorstep or....elsewhere.
5
Okay okay...not too much wine then. ;)
5
2
Golden Gate Park. I'd suggest packing a picnic, strolling the park for a couple of hours and then swinging by the California Academy of Sciences (complete with indoor rainforest filled with butterflies) and/or the San Francisco Botanical Garden. Very simple and romantic.
6
Great date. And if you check out California Academy of Sciences on Thursday nights, tickets are only $12!
5
Oh yes. The Night Life at California Academy of Sciences is very fun. And so pretty with all the fishies!
5
3
I just saw that there's a deal on here for a bike rental for two! Now that would be a great first date...biking across the GGB, maybe? I wonder if those bikes have a basket to carry a picnic and a bottle of wine.
5
http://www.pinchit.com/deals/327/bay-city-bike
6
I have actually done this and confirm that it is a fun/quirky first date idea!
8
Tandem bike? I've always wanted to try it.
5
That would be so much fun! Do they have tandem bikes Ashley? Get on it!
10
And for the second date: tandem skydiving? Just a suggestion.
5
Well, I suppose if you were to fall to your death you could say you were in the relationship for the rest of your life.
5

Golden Gate Park. I'd suggest packing a picnic, strolling the park for a couple of hours and then swinging by the California Academy of Sciences (complete with indoor rainforest filled with butterflies) and/or the San Francisco Botanical Garden. Very simple and romantic.
31
Throw in a Frisbee and make sure to stop by the Japanese Tea Garden for tea and cookies, Stowe Lake for some paddle-boating, and the Garden of Shakespeare Flowers and I'm sold.
5
I love paddle boating. Makes me feel like a little kid.
8
Me too...the Lafayette Reservoir is also pretty good for that if you want a more nature-y atmosphere while you're paddling around. :D
5
I like chasing ducks in a paddle boat, personally.

1
Has anyone scooped up Pinchit's Blocktoberfest deal yet? I'm seriously thinking this might be a great excuse to go...not that I need an excuse to drink beer.
10
I just got my ticket to Blocktoberfest! Bring on the beer
5
Right on! Speaking of beer...have you been to Monk's Kettle on 16th street. It's incredible! Hundreds of beers from all over the world and great food too!
10
I haven't yet, but I've heard rave reviews about this spot. Maybe I should end Blocktoberfest with a drive-by at Monk's Kettle :)
5
Well, hopefully you won't actually be driving after a day at Blocktoberfest! ;) But you absolutely should for some great food after a big day of beer sampling.
10
Ha! No worries, Pinchy is my designated driver. I hope his claws don't scruff my leather seats.
5
That's what the rubber bands are for! Try the stew. :)
10
Stew and beer?! I can't think of a better pairing. What kind of stew is it?
5
You know, there menu changes quite often but last time I went they had a beef stew that was a perfect belly-fill for after/during beer. :)
5
2
SF Beer Week is great. A huge variety of brewers and bars participate, from large breweries to home brewers. It's a lovely way for San Francisco to celebrate a beautiful invention: beer.
6
Are you going to Oktoberfest by the Bay this year? Just bought my tickets on Pinchit!
25
SF Beer Week might be my favorite week of the year. I double checked and yes, it is in fact the best week ever. Cheers!
5
Cheers!

I love to get away to Pismo Beach and San Luis Obispo. It's about a three hour drive each way to get away from the hustle and bustle of the big city and walk on a warm beach. There's an otherworldy hotel that I have to stop in (either to stay or just look around) called The Madonna in. Has to be seen to be believed. The area is quiet and calm and provides a nice break that's not too far away and doesn't break the bank.
6
Good Call! I have spent a lot of time in San Luis Obispo and it is one of my favorite weekend getaways from SF as well.. Have you been to the Sunset Drive-In movie theatre? I highly recommend it on a warm summer night!
5
No! Thanks for the recommendation! You must eat at the Madonna Inn next time you're anywhere near the Pismo/SLO area. :)
5
1
Well, since it's not technically legal to drink in Dolores Park, I suppose a close second would be Blondie's on Valencia. A small front patio allows for great people watching while you sip a bloody mary that is really a meal or a cooling cosmo while the world rushes by.
5
1
In Bernal Heights there's a little spot called El Rio where I love to go for a nice happy houron their outdoor patio. Sometimes they offer happy hour BBQ and free oysters just to wet your whistle while you enjoy a well made margarita or three and maybe a game of pool.
53
El Rio is a blast!

What I love about SF is the variety. In such a small city it's amazing how much cultural and social diversity there really is here. SF is a city that celebrates itself; and for good reason. Not only is it a gorgeous place to live, but it's also home to some of the strangest and most interesting people I've ever come across. There are so many nooks and crannies to find the most amazing little objects, thrift stores to browse for hours, lovely parks that seem to pop up like OZ in the middle of urban chaos. SF is an international city that feels like a small town, it's at once inviting and mysterious and has something for every type of person from every walk of life.
13
well said!
5
Thanks Janine! I like yours too! :)

1
Bourbon and Branch in the Tenderloin. Once you get a reservation (you must have one) and the password for that night, you enter into an atmosphere not unlike a 1920s speakeasy. The cocktails are unusual and divine. The drinks are served in many cases with home made ingredients and herbs that you wouldn't expect in a drink but that makes the cocktails as special and unique as the bar itself.
6
If you haven't been, you should also check out their sister bar, Rickhouse in the Fi Di. Same speakeasy style with delicious cocktails!
5
That sounds cool. Thanks! I'll check it out!
7
I've heard about Rickhouse. It does have delicious drinks for a tad bit cheaper than Bourbon & Branch so it's definitely worth going to.
5
Cheaper than Bourbon & Branch is always good!
5
1
Slim's on 11th and Folsom streets. Slim's is the sister venue to The Great American Music Hall and offers (as GAMH does) the option to buy dinner along with your ticket which reserves you a table in their small balcony. A large stage and dance floor provide plenty of space for great music and dancing. Slim's is also an all ages venue so you can bring the kids to see the music that you love.
14
They seem to get a fair share of metal acts going through, which is what I saw the last time I went. I agree, Slim's is a great venue.
5
I've seen some of my favorite punk bands there over the years. Have you ever been to Bottom of the Hill? Also a great place to see music.
5
1
The Valley Tavern in Noe Valley. This place is spacious, serves great drinks and even has a couple of pool tables to flirt over. It also has a few cozy booths when you find someone you'd like to know better. It also features a nice little outdoor patio in the back where you can get a little privacy. Good juke box and friendly service as well.
5
1
51st state (Closed) is wonderful. This food truck features regional dishes from all 50 states and each one is delicious. Try the BBQ.
8
Regional dishes from all 50 states? That is quite a challenge. Just out of curiosity, what do they have for California?
5
I am sad to report that they closed. Waaaaahhhhh!!!
5
But what food truck would you recommend. There are so many I just don't know where to start!
8
I recommended JapaCurry previously, but now I'd also add Nom Nom to the list as well. (Apologies to those that don't like asian food: I apparently am on a bit of an eastern bent this month)
5
I'm gonna guess that JapaCurry is Japanese and curry? What's NomNom all about?
8
JapaCurry is basically all about Japanese comfort food which includes (besides the curry), pork/chicken katsu, various kinds of bentos, potato croquettes (divine!), and a bacon mocha. NomNom, on the other hand, serves Banh Mi, which are vietnamese sandwiches. Typically they contain pork or chicken and can be somewhat spicy, which by itself is not that impressive, but NomNom uses very high quality organic ingredients that make all the difference in the world (and on the palate)!
5
Ain't that the truth? It's amazing what a difference organic ingredients can make in any meal. Speaking of sandwiches, have you tried Wichcraft? They have a lovely tuna sandwich with capers, lemon zest and cheese. All organic.
8
Mmm. That does sound lovely. My sister talks a lot about WichCraft, but I haven't had a chance to go out and try it. I suppose a part of me wonders if its enough to fulfill my appetite, which can get quite large when it comes to sandwiches...
5
Try the turkey bacon and avocado sandwich. It's not enormous but it's filling. Dammit. Now I want one!
8
I'll be honest: both of the sandwiches you mentioned sound amazing. I'm a huge sucker for tuna and capers and let's face it: bacon is the porky food of the gods. Unfortunately, it tends to gift people with high cholesterol instead of immortality, but it's still well worth the price. Thanks for the rec!
5
No problem! And I know. It's so sad that something so perfect and good is so bad for us. Damn human body!
5
1
Sparky's 24 Hour Diner on Church street! This 24 hour diner has everything from fettuccine to burgers, a fabulous breakfast menu and incredible milkshakes. They have a great juke box and friendly servers. After a late night of bar hopping, @Sparky's is where you need to go to get that stack of pancakes, milkshake and huge plate of pasta you're craving. But try to get there a little before 2:00 AM, otherwise there will be a wait.
Mmm, you had me at "incredible milkshakes". I'm adding this to my foodie hit list for that milkshake craving. Aside from pancakes, which other breakfast menu items would you recommend?
5
Build your own omelet is one of my go to dishes there. Also the eggs Florentine is a great choice. :)
Fabulous! They seem to have quite a variety. Can't wait to try this one. :)
5
Oh...did I forget to mention that they deliver until like, 4 AM? One night my husband and I had just a tad too much, came home and ordered burgers from Sparky's 24 Hour Diner and watched a movie. Great place.
5
1
There's a tiny town about four hours north on the PH1 called Elk. I hesitate to even mention it as I'd love to keep it all to myself. The town (five blocks long) features the most wonderful cliff side B&B called Griffin House. Private cabins hand over the cliffs where you can your significant other can listen to crashing waves all night. There are no phones or televisions in the cabins which are decorated very simply and sweetly; a woodstove in each cabin. To top it off, each room has a rubber duckie in its bathroom.
7
That sounds absolutely lovely. Is it pricey to get one of the cabins for a night?
5
It depends on the day and the season. The cabins that overhang the cliffs are about $240 a night and the other ones run about $150. But I think they're cheaper on weekdays.
5
http://www.griffinn.com/
7
nice. thanks for the link. I think a weekday is definitely more reasonable for my budget.
5
Oh, yeah. Me too. But it's such a nice spot. Romantic...and close to Mendocino.

1
Minako sushi on Mission between 17th and 18th streets. Minako is tiny and hidden, intimate and elegant. The chef is Minako, mother of the owner, Judy. All of their food is organic and put together in interesting and unusual ways. It's not terribly expensive and worth the wait. Can you say Hamachi Mint Sashimi?
11
Oh - sounds like a must try! Anything you recommend other than the Hamachi Mint Sashimi?
5
Oh, yes! Corn fritters are great, all the sashimi is wonderful and they have a carpaccio to die for.
11
Oh em gee! Love Carpaccio - can't wait to try!
5
2
We're on our way out for some sushi at Yoyo Sushi on 16th and Valencia. It's not exactly a hole-in-the-wall but it's very reasonable and has really great food. It's been my go-to sushi joint for years. I think I'll have some cucumber infused sake!
10
I've gotta try this cucumber infused sake. I've tried lychee sake before, so I gotta give this a sip or two.
5
Oh, yeah. It's good stuff. And don't forget to ask Chef Eddie for a special "Eddie" roll.
5
1
Casanova on Valencia and 16th streets. It's fun, has great DJs, friendly bartenders and...velvet paintings.
20
I've heard good things about Casanova -- do you have any drink recommendations?
18
Morac Hookah lounge is on the same block and has a great vibe as well. On Thursdays, they do a social mixer with Julius Papp and Franky Boissy... good, sexy fun.
5
That's my kind of fun, Vivian! Jenny, whatever your poison is, they'll serve it up for you. The atmosphere is excellent and the bartenders are fast and friendly, too.
18
did you guys know that The Armory is also in the Mission and makes for great porn star spotting?!
5
Yes! I live close to it, actually. I heard on the news that you can actually buy tickets to get shown around the place...although I think they steer visitors away from any actual filming (thank god). But I think it would be an interesting tour to say the least!
18
yep.. they have all sorts of different sets like the medieval dungeon, a doctor's office, and a futuristic sex room. sexciting.
5
Sextastic!
