As a prelude to the 2012 Academy Awards, PUBLIC is pleased to host author/cycler Steven Rea for one night only. The event rolls out Friday, February 24th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at PUBLIC HQ, and features rare photos and a discussion of Steven Rea's new book, Hollywood Rides a Bike. The book uncovers classic images of Hollywood icons mounted on the most stylish bikes sunny Southern California had to offer.

Hollywood Rides a Bike showcases candid backlot shots taken by publicity lensers who happened across stars as they cycled their ways around the Burbank, Culver City, Universal City, and Hollywood lots. Retro bike fiends will note the streamlined angles, artful detail, and old-school craftsmanship on the cruisers and roadsters, folders and tandems, English lightweights and trikes, triple and high-wheelers pictured herein. These bikes mark a time and place when things were built to last, when design and function dovetailed neatly—well, perfectly, in fact.
