If you're going to San Francisco, be sure to wear some flowers in your hair.
Meet Sunshine. Let her take you on a storied cable car ride with an impressive cast of characters whose similarities and differences truly embody the ethos of San Francisco.
The Offer: $16 for 1 ticket to Absolutely San Francisco ($32 value)
The Theater: Cozily nestled in the newly renovated Alcove Theater in Union Square, Absolutely San Francisco celebrates San Francisco's rich history through six characters, a dozen stories, and a handful of carefully selected props. The theater is intimate, with amazing acoustics and simple lighting, perfect for a one-person musical such as this. In fact, the lack of bells and whistles do well to highlight the craft of the performer, allowing her to truly set the stage using only her facial expressions, movements, and, of course, song.
The Show: Described as an uplifting one-woman musical "dramedy" about lost love and the San Francisco experience, Absolutely San Francisco offers an intimate glimpse into the heart of the city's people, turning around stereotypes and generalizations left and right. Starring Mary Gibboney as Sunshine, the story opens with a typically frustrating part of San Francisco life: a parking ticket. Of course, the difference is Sunshine's ticket affects her entire home, a shopping cart parked right below Rincon Park's "Cupid's Span" sculpture. In search of her new home, she finds her way onto a cable car. As she impressively switches from one character to the next at the drop of a hat (pun intended), the audience enjoys the sights and sounds of San Francisco as whimsically told through Sunshine and her fellow cable car cohorts, who are as quintessentially San Francisco as the Golden Gate Bridge itself.
