Lush clusters of piano, a mysterious sound that might be something being unwrapped, or paper crushed for kindling, and A Church That Fits Our Needs, the second album by North Carolina group LOST IN THE TREES, is underway, announcing itself as a...more »

Love how cozy it is here, and they always book the best bands :D

Nothing tops seeing your favorite bands in a cozy, homey venue.

Great upcoming bands and a fantastic venue.

There are so many great see live music. I definitely like the smaller places better. Bottom of the Hill, The Independent and Slim's are my favorites. I have also seen some great shows at BarrelHouse, Bimbo's 365 Club and Manor West as well.

I've never been to BarrelHouse, but I've heard a lot of good things - how often do they book shows there? Seems like it's a more sporadic venue.

Bottom of the Hill - as much as I love The Independent and The Fillmore, Bottom of the Hill has one of the nicest, most intimate rooms in SF. I've seen tons of bands on the upswing here - most all of them played a MUCH bigger room the next time they came through SF.

Bottom of the Hill - A place to see the next big thing before they get too big. This place is a haven for the musically curious.

Bottom of the Hill often has great live music and a reasonably priced bar. Hang out in the spacious outdoor smoking patio between sets.

Bottom of the Hill is a very cool, intimate place featuring up and coming bands. Also, on some Mondays there's a free show.

What kind of music do they place on a free Monday?

Do you have to compete to get into the free shows. I imagine you would.

I love Bottom of the Hill! I've never been to the free shows but I've seen a lot of great bands there. What was the last show you saw there, Rachel?

Is this an establishment, or literally the bottom of a popular live music hill? Either sounds good.
Heh.. great live music establishment. Small place with some great (not so well known) bands coming through. http://www.yelp.com/biz/bottom-of-the-hill-san-francisco

I'm seeing Blackbird Blackbird there next week! If you can, check Bottom of the Hill out. What's Top of the Hill like?

Bottom of the Hill is a great venue from pretty much every angle - if they keep getting in amazing bands like they have been things will only get better.
I saw them a while back at Slim's Nightclub. They do not disappoint

Ah, Bottom of the Hill. Maybe it's just me and my weakness for smaller venues, but I really love the intimate vibe of this place. Very chill atmosphere, never overly crowded, and, if you're lucky, a great place to have a chat with the artists while they relax with a beer in the venue's backdoor patio. Oh yes, and they have a pretty decent selection of beer, which is always helpful when you're rocking out to all the indie acts currently performing on the stage.

Have you been to Cafe Du Nord? Similar feel makes for very intimate shows.

I haven't actually, but I certainly wouldn't say no to trying it. Have you seen any memorable acts there recently?

not recently, no. But they've got some pretty awesome shows coming up. The acoustic sets are always so haunting...

I'm going to double up here and recommend both Sub Mission Art Space for rad punk shows with decent atmosphere - I used to live only a few blocks away and the bar and music are usually good. Bottom of the Hill has an awesome rotation of bands and good sound quality throught the place, but it can be a pin to get all teh way out there if you aren't on a bike. Moral of the story - get a bike. And even though Rickshaw Stop has had fewer shows in recent memory that blew me away, I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for them. Oh and want to be surrounded by luxury at a big concert? Head to Fox Square in Oakland for some great bands and squishy chairs with drink holders - sweet!

If you like dirty gritty little venues then The Independent and Slim's are also awesome.

And Rickshaw Stop, of course. Super fun place to see music.

I really love Bottom of the Hill. Everybody is really laid back and it's easy to get stuff signed from the band after the show.
