Paris in New York

Paris has its beloved Brasserie Lipp, home-base for many world-renowned writers, actors, and politicians. Known for hearty Alsatian fare such as choucrute garni and boeuf gros sel ménagère, it is one of the first stops for educated travelers who want to sample the best in food, ambiance, and café-culture. But, most of us can’t jet off on a whim to Paris. Thank goodness the essence of Paris can come to us. With a large Francophile population in Manhattan, you can bet your baguette there’s a café, bistro, boulangerie, or patisserie to sate your craving for all things French.

You definitely got me hankering for some fine French food. But there's a lot more reasonably priced places I frequent, and the best just may be Pâtes et Traditions in Williamsburg. Knowledgeable French men and women provide delightful service at the charming cafe, and the décor is as quaint and comforting as the inexpensive food. They offer impeccable sweet and savory crêpes, delicious pastas and North African cuisine such as couscous and beef stew on Friday and Saturday nights. It is a true treasure.
